How to dress up for The Reunion, 家

Hello hello! Been a hot minute since we launched and we already have enquiries about outfits! Have I told you how much I loveeeee being able to help decide your outfit choices?! I’d like to assure you that our sessions are definitely unscripted and hassle-free in the sense that we do not ask you to pose awkwardly but, outfits preparation is just one of the things you can do for yourself (beforehand) so you feel good and look good on the day of the session!

SO THIS CHINESE NEW YEAR …

We are going to be straightforward about this and say that, this might probably be the ONLY time we are going to ask you to come in PRINTS, COLOURS, and come as BOLD as you can. Our backdrop for Edition #03 of our pop-up is a pretty creamy off-white colour with pops of pastels for a reason — So that you can stand out in a fun and playful way.

Gone are the days where we take family portraits like this too seriously, so yes come in your craziest outfits. COME BLOW OUR MINDS …

There are many ways you can dress up for this (everything that you do, avoid words in your outfits) but we’ve narrowed them down to 3 categories for you.

So here goes!

1. MONOCHROMATIC

Keep outfits centred around a single colour, so that 70-80% of the tones are in unison. Have fun mixing and matching!

2. PRINTS

In a very strange manner, prints in complementary colours work too! Think blues and yellows, terracotta and yellows, muted olives and mustards, dusty pinks and sky blues … GO LOUD.

3. BOLD COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS

Come in your favourite colours! Rule of thumb is to keep it clean and minimalistic and you’re good to go!

So if your nerves start to fizz when you think about what to wear, you can always fall back on Batik and especially beautiful batik wear from our friends at Yeomama Batik ! If all else fails, remember you’ll never go wrong with basics. All you have to do is match the colours with each other.

These are just some suggestions for you to start with. Hopefully it’s enough information to answer any questions you may have, but we are here for you if you want a second opinion on any outfit ideas! Any other things you’d like to discuss, drop us a DM.
