Day of the photoshoot

First of all, (and I say this to all our clients) just know that your shoot is going to be AWESOME, don’t worry about that part! 99% of the time, the first few minutes can feel a little awkward. But as time goes on, you’ll begin to relax. We are not naturals in front of the camera either, so we totally know how it feels!

During the session, I will prompt you, direct you and will never ask you to do something that feels wrong or weird or leave you hanging. If you do ever feel weird, just let me know. It’s totally ok and we can think of something else together.

Bear in mind that the objective isn’t just to take perfect pictures, it’s to preserve how a moment feels. Whether it’s a home, outdoor or editorial session, the objective is for you and your pet to enjoy the experience and for us to capture your bond.

Here are some key things that I have noted down throughout the years of shooting pets and their owners, like I said I send this to everyone in our email exchanges and I hope you find it useful!

  • Find your chill. There’s nothing worse than arriving at a shoot feeling rushed and frazzled. If you’re able to take a few moments to relax, unwind, and do what you love on the morning of or the day before, give that gift to yourself. Decide on your go-to poses, outfits, pet’s outfit, ahead of time and get those out of the way! Allow yourself time to get to the location (including letting your pet relieve itself before the session) so you don’t feel stressed when you get there.

  • Have zero expectations. I’ll be right there with you embracing whatever comes our way - the wind, the rain, the laughter, the tears. It’s all about you and your dogs and capturing exactly how you feel on the day of your shoot. Every shoot is unique, so the promise is spontaneity and magic - not guarantees and checklists.

  • Shower and brush your pet. This is just a suggestion but your dog will look awesome showered. Your dog will look clean and fresh. You can do this anytime within a week of the session. Trust us on this!
